Thesis:
The United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because of Japan’s devastating surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the action also put a quick end to the war, and saved the lives of many Japanese, as well as Americans.
Summary:
Although there are arguments that the United States was not justified to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in the end, the U.S did what was best for the country. If the U.S would have invaded the islands and had a standard war, thousands more lives would have been lost. The war was quickly ended after the second bombing because the Japanese were forced to surrender. Had we fought a traditional war, who knows how long the war could have gone on and how many more lives could have been lost. Lastly, the devastation of Pearl Harbor happened only shortly before the bombs. In a sense you could see how the U.S could maybe be using the bombs as revenge for what happened at Pearl Harbor. There are many pros and cons to this subject, however, I think that the U.S handled the situation exactly right and did the right thing by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
